Steelers' James Harrison on Chiefs: 'We played them this year?'

Steelers' James Harrison on Chiefs: 'We played them this year?' James Harrison has played in many NFL games — 204 of them including playoffs, to be exact — so we understand if he forgets some details about a few. But we find it hard to believe the Steelers linebacker "didn't know" Pittsburgh played and beat Kansas City in Week 4this season. Harrison logged two tackles in that game, a 43-14 Steelers home win on Sunday Night Football.

The Kansas City Chiefs will reap the rewards of their 12-4 division title winning season this coming Sunday when they host a divisional playoff game at Arrowhead Stadium. After the wild card games this past weekend we now know that their opponent will be the Pittsburgh Steelers . While this isn’t a surprise given that they were heavy favorites against the Miami Dolphins, it is an opponent that many fans were hoping to avoid.

Arrowhead Stadiumprovides the Chiefs arguably the NFL's best home-field advantage.

That is, unless the weather forecast in Kansas City looks terrible and Le'Veon Bell is coming to town.

Such is the case for Sunday's AFC divisional playoff game, in which the No. 3 seeded Steelers look to extend theirhot streak in the cold against the No. 2 seeded Chiefs.

Kansas City weather for Chiefs-Steelers

The Weather Channel at midweek was calling for freezing rain in Kansas City on Sunday — a 90 percent chance of precipitation and a high of 34 degrees. In other words, conditions are expected to be uncomfortablefor players and miserable for fans in attendance at Arrowhead.

Mellinger Minutes: Chiefs playoffs , ways to win, plus Royals’ path and Kim Anderson. Fireworks lit the sky and fans cheered as a full-field U.S. flag was unfurled during pregame ceremonies at the Kansas City Chiefs and Denver Broncos football game at Arrowhead Stadium last year. Yesterday, a version of that was asked to Chiefs president Mark Donovan, but the occasion of a home playoff game against the Steelers allowed for the question to be presented a little differently

The Pittsburgh Steelers and Kansas City Chiefs meet Sunday in the NFL AFC divisional playoffs at Arrowhead Stadium on NBC. The Pittsburgh Steelers enter this game on an eight- game winning streak after waxing the Miami Dolphins last Saturday, 30-12. The Pittsburgh Steelers haven’t made the AFC conference championship since the 2010 NFL season. In the win over the Dolphins, Le'Veon Bell set a Steelers postseason record with 167 rushing yards and two touchdowns, simply gashing a Miami defense that entered the game banged up.

But they might be perfect for Bell.

Keep in mind the Pittsburgh running back broke the franchise record for rushing yards in a single gameagainst the Bills in Week 14, when Buffalo was being pounded by a snow storm. The Steelers followed the age-old formula for success in snowy, winter"football weather": run the ball, again and again.

The results for Bell were 38 carries for 236 yards and three touchdowns, an absurd average of 6.2 yards per carry. In the passing game, Bell added four catches for 62 yards, a cool 15.5 yards per reception. Nobody in NFL history had ever posted at least 220 rushing yards, 60 receiving yards and three touchdowns in a single game.

The Chiefs, though, knowwhat Bell can do — they were made well aware back in Week 4, when the running back returned from his season-opening three-game suspension against Kansas Cityand put up 144 rushing yards on 18 carries, an even more absurd average of 8.0 yards per carry and his third highest rushing total of the season.

The Kansas City Chiefs will host the Pittsburgh Steelers in the Divisional Round of the NFL Playoffs . According to Westgate’s Jeff Sherman, the Steelers enter the matchup as 2.5 point road favorites. The over-under opens at 46.5 points.

The Kansas City Chiefs faced a must-win in Pittsburgh but couldn't do anything as the Steelers beat the Chiefs , 20-12. The Chiefs remain alive for the playoffs if the Houston Texans hold on to beat the Baltimore Ravens. But the Chiefs now need a lot of help to make it in. The frustrating part of this game --besides all of it -- was the Steelers five-plus minute drive in the fourth quarter, capped off with a field goal to make it a two score game . That was a clinic on how you FINISH a game . The Chiefs have been unable to do that enough this year.

Not helping the outlook for the Chiefs is the fact that their defense allowed 121.1 rushing yards per game this season,26thin the league. Their 4.4 yards per carry allowed ranked No. 24.

Though he likely won't win the award, Bell is an NFL MVP candidate for a reason. SN's David Steele argues he — not Ben Roethlisberger or Antonio Brown — is the primary reason the Steelers have won eight straight games en route to theirAFC North title. Part of that streak was last week's wild-card playoff win over the Dolphins, in which Bell rushed for 167 yards.

Kansas City opened as a two-point favorite over Pittsburgh. Given Bell's recent history and the perpetual success of dominant rushing attacks in wintry weather, that line might change as the temperatures in western Missouri drop.

Not the best news with the Patriots awaiting. The Pittsburgh Steelers will need to be at their best if they want to go into Foxborough and beat the New England Patriots on Sunday. But it sounds like that’s currently far from the case.
