West Ham interested in Shane Long

West Ham interested in Shane Long According to an exclusive report from the Telegraph this evening, West Ham are interested in Southampton striker Shane Long. The Republic of Ireland striker scored just his first goal of the season today as Saints slumped to a second consecutive Premier League defeat, with West Brom coming away with a well-deserved 2-1 win. Long hasn’t been anywhere near his best so far in the first half of the campaign and will be hoping that he can kick on and better himself in the remaining games, but West Ham are claimed to be interested in making a shock January move for the striker. The 29-year-old is wanted by Slaven Bilic, who is also looking to solve his side’s goal scoring problems. With a lack of cutting edge becoming increasingly apparent this season, the Croatian manager is hoping to bring Long to the London Stadium. Long signed a new four-year contract with Saints back in the summer and a move does seem largely unlikely.

Can you name the last West Ham player to score 15 goals in a Premier League season?

Well done to those who named Paolo Di Canio, way back in the 1999-2000 season. That’s how long it’s been since the Hammers have had a reliable goal-getter in attack.

You can’t really fault our effort, but you can fault our decision making.

Since David’s Gold and Sullivan took over the Hammers in January 2010, the club have signed 31 strikers. Thirty-one. That is absurd.

What West Ham would give to have the likes of Jermain Defoe, Dean Ashton and Marlon Harewood back at the club in their primes to score goals on a regular basis.

If you can’t remember all the miserable failures to grace our club, don’t sweat, I’ve decided to rate each and every striker the Hammers have signed in SuGo’s seven-year tenure at the club.

What a trip down memory lane this will be.

West Ham consider renewed bid for Martin Braithwaite .
Finding a striker this month is West Ham’s number one priority you can safely say. Having watched Simone Zaza leave the club following a dismal loan spell from Juventus, the Hammers are short in attackers with just Andy Carroll, Ashley Fletcher and Jonathan Calleri the only fit options in the squad currently. According to Sky Sports, Slaven Bilic is considering making a renewed bid to sign Toulouse striker Martin Braithwaite this month but he does face competition from a number of European clubs. West Ham saw an £8.5m bid rejected for the Danish forward last month with the Ligue 1 side standing firm on their £10m valuation of their star striker. Braithwaite has eight goals in 18 appearances this season after assuming the role of the central striker following the departure of Wissam Ben Yedder to Sevilla in the summer. Brentford’s Scott Hogan is also on West Ham’s radar but the West London club are refusing to budge on their £15m price tag for the 24-year-old.
